For greater control on your glyph shapes, switch from Nodes to Nibs (or Both) on the top widget:
Toggle to the Path editing mode:
Toggle to the Nibs mode:
Select and adjust the size & rotation of any nib point
Adjust the size & rotation of each stroke point
